An Improved Marine Predators Algorithm-Tuned Fractional-Order PID Controller for Automatic Voltage Regulator System

One of the most popular controllers for automatic voltage regulator (AVR) in maintaining level a synchronous generator is fractional-order proportional–integral-derivative (FOPID) controller. Unfortunately, tuning FOPID controller challenging since there are five gains compared to three conventional proportional–integral–derivative (PID) Therefore, this research work presents variant marine predators algorithm (MPA) AVR system. Here, two modifications applied existing MPA: hybridization between MPA and safe experimentation dynamics (SEDA) updating mechanism solve local optima issue, introduction tunable step size adaptive coefficient (CF) improve searching capability. The effectiveness proposed method system was assessed terms convergence curve objective function, statistical analysis Wilcoxon’s rank test, response analysis, stability analyses, robustness analyses where subjected noise, disturbance, parameter uncertainties. We have shown that our has improved system’s transient also produced about times better results function with other recent metaheuristic optimization-tuned controllers.
